Late July Organic Snacks

By Elizabeth Smith, August 14, 2012  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Elizabeth Smith

At Whole Foods Market®, we love sharing good food and drink. Whether it’s a peak-of-the-season berry, a team member creation from our bakery, sausages made in house or a new grocery discovery, we love celebrating great flavors and products. But we don’t just want to tell you about it; we want you to enjoy it too. So, we’re doing a series of summer giveaways through mid-August. Read on to find out how to enter to win.

It might be mid-August, but it’s still time for Late July! Late July Organic Snacks is on a mission to educate people about organics through their taste buds. As a family owned and operated company, they care deeply about the integrity of their products – which all proudly wear the USDA organic seal! This means they meet USDA National Organic Standards requiring that the crops are grown without the use of persistent pesticides. Those standards also don't allow irradiation, genetically modified ingredients (GMOs) and synthetic preservatives.

If you’ve ever searched for snacks for the family that meet your standards, then you’ll understand what Late July Organic Snacks founder Nicole Bernard Dawes went through years ago when her kids were old enough to start snacking. That’s when she knew she had to take matters into her own hands and recreate classic crackers and cookies with organic ingredients and without hydrogenated oils or artificial additives.

With “family” at the forefront, Late July Organic Snacks was started to create a better, more responsible food system for her children and future generations. With help from her father, the founder of Cape Cod Potato Chips, Nicole worked to create delicious snacks without compromising on the quality of ingredients — snacks that lived up to her family’s standards and likely yours too!

Learn more about Late July Organic Snacks, Nicole and her family and their passion for great snack foods in this slideshow.

If you have problems viewing the slideshow, you can watch it on YouTube.

Family remains the primary focus at Late July Organic Snacks, and on any given day you can find three generations at work including Nicole’s eight-year-old and four-year-old sons. (They’re the perfect R&D team!) Impressively that strong sense of family also extends into the community. Late July Organic Snacks supports several nonprofit organizations through the sale of their products, including the Jane Goodall Institute, American Camp Association and Whole Planet Foundation.

Nicole views making food for other people’s families (like yours) an enormous responsibility. Perhaps that’s why we think your whole family will love their Mini Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. You can sit back and enjoy organic peanut butter sandwiched between buttery-tasting organic mini crackers, without worrying about trans fats, artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors or preservatives – because there aren’t any! With values like those, their products can’t help but leave a great taste in your mouth.

What’s built up your appetite this summer? Tell us in the comments below by August 26 and we’ll pick a winner at random to receive a case of Late July Organic Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers.

The fine print: No purchase necessary. Promotion ends August 26, 2012, 11:59 PM CDT. Must be a legal resident of the US or Canada (except in Quebec, where it is void) age 18 or older to participate. Taxes on prize, if applicable, are the responsibility of the winner. Employees of Whole Foods Market, Inc., are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

I would donate these to the nursing home where my mother is. She is from the south, an Alzheimer's patient, and loves peanut butter crackers. These would be a healthy and much welcomed treat for the residents.

Keeping up with the tomatoes! Roasting, saucing, chopping, freezing, canning, pickling. The only thing keeping me going is knowing that all too soon the summer tomatoes will be gone.

Last year I lost 60 pounds. This summer is time for strengthing and toning. I started walking 45 minutes a day with my scottish terrier, Kenzie. I also do yoga daily and discovered if I skip a day, I don't feel as well. The upside to the activity besides a stronger body, is I can eat more and still maintain my weight.

Swimming is the main event that builds up our appetites. After swim, I make sure to have plenty of organic and natural snacks ready: Late July Crackers, fruit, cheeses, home-made smoothies and popsicles.

I've been buying up as many blueberries as I can from my local farmers markets, and stuffing my freezer with them. They make the best snack on a humid day in Philadelphia!

I had 3 belly surgeries in the past year and a half, so I have been trying to rebuild my strength by working with my SO to create an organic container garden. I also have diabetes, so exercise is part of my prescription for wellness (along with food and drugs). I work in spurts (I'm in Florida and it's 90+ degrees, 90%+ humidity). Already harvesting tomatoes, parsley, peppers, and basil. I have extended growing seasons, so I get to plant many things all year long. Working up an appetite! I shop at the Whole Foods Market in Tampa.

As a family we have educated ourselves on the importance of organic and non-GMO products. This has led us to make better food choices. As a result, our energy has increased and we have become more active. Since we have started this lifestyle journey our family of four has lost a combined total of 54 pounds. I am so proud!

Biking - biking - biking on our local fabulous trails. My daughter has been stabiliser free for two years now - she is 5 this October and loves her 5 mile round trip through the park - a slow cruise for the rest of the family. Other times she goes on the trailer arm on my bike and we head off for a 11 - 16 mile cycle with a snack break mid way - nothing better than packing some portion sized crackers and cartons of juice. We cycle EVERY day in the summer - Because we can:)
