Kids World Party

By Dan Storper, July 9, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Dan Storper
Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

The best party we ever created was a summer olympic games for our daughter. We had a variety of kid appropriate games--spoon races, ring toss, water slide (best length), whiffleball home-run derby, soccer goal, etc. Then we had an all Whole-Foods lunch, including Whole Foods cake and ice cream. Prizes for all the events included Whole Foods gift certificates, organic snacks, and home-made ribbons. Very fun! Favorite Putumayo CD is Hawaiian Playground. We used it at the party along with World Playground #1 and #2!

My sister threw her six-year-old daughter a birthday tea party filled with fancy hats, finger sandwiches and bite-sized desserts. She and her friends had so much fun being posh!

My favorite birthday party as a little girl was one in which my father, a talented artist and poet, was the special guest star. He set up an easel in front of his audience (my little friends) and drew fabulous cartoon characters for us as he recited his funny and entertaining children's poems, each one starring one of the characters he drew. I felt so lucky that he was my dad.

Music draws kids like nothing else. One of the best birthday parties my son has attended and enjoyed is one at which the hostess organized a music class for all the little kids.

My kids and I love Putumayo cds! We started with World Lullabies (Thula Mama is a favorite) and now we love to make a dinner theme with the music from different countries. So far we've only owned a couple and the rest are borrowed from the library. Would adore the collection!

The best party was one where the kids got to decorate their own cupcakes with organic, yummy food treats..There was a well known kid's music group whose theme is the environment. So, not only did everyone hear some great music, there were some important things to be learned. We made musical instruments from natural resources: all of which would be perfect to play with Putumayo's new CD for kids. I had a children's store for years & we sold Putumayo CDs like "hotcakes". Thanks for all the great sounds for adults & kids, alike. Cheers, Janis

A very fun princess party for a very sweet now 6 year old last weekend. I have to say it was the best party ever, the only thing that could have maybe pushed it over the top would have been some fun music.

I think my 2nd grade class would really enjoy these cds. I would use the songs in Social Studies and Music to show how different cultures enjoy music. It would be fun too.

My son's "despedida" (farewell party) from his orphanage in the Philippines last year when he was 13 months old. All of his caregivers told him how much they loved him and blessed us as a family. Tears through the whole amazing thing!

The very best kids' party we ever had was when a group of my ESL University students from Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia joined us and taught the kids songs and dances from their countries... the kids came in international costumes, we ate foods from 5 continents and we all had the time of our lives... Now that I am a grandmother, I would love to teach world songs and dances to my amazing grandchildren... Our goal is for them to be bilingual or trilingual and appreciate the cultures of the world. Putamayo Kids World Party would help us do that and spread it to their friends at our parties.

I planned and hosted a (night) star party for my son. We had kids build space stations or satellites out of graham crackers, frosting and various candies, while the kids then listened to a star presentation on CD. Next my husband brought out our telescope and the guests went outside to stargaze and eat popcorn. For the grand finale, the kids watched a special DVD on constellations on an outdoor screen my husband built. The kids fell asleep under the stars and had some unique memories to bring home (I think they all learned something about stars too, but dont tell them that, they had too much fun!)

I have loved the Putumayo CD's for many years. My children have always enjoyed singing and dancing with them. My favorite child party is when the children make the decorations, invent and then play the games(such as scavenger hunt, or following clues to a "treasure")...with the adults if it is a 'parent' birthday party; help plan the menu, and decorate the cake, or get to decorate their own cupcake. We usually make it a 'run in the sprinkler' party if at all possible.

Everytime we get in the car my daughter demands that we listen to her music - it's the Putumayo Kids Latin Playground. My kids jam in the back while I get to enjoy a relaxing drive to kids music that isn't like kid music, love it!
