New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day.
With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep.
In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling).

For relaxing, I love Deep Forest, Karunesh, and Enya. For falling asleep, I like instrumental music.

I listen to all kinds of music from folk to smooth jazz for relaxation. Always interested in new music and would love to give this a listen! Nothing better at night than relaxing music, wine and time with family.

Listening to music with my 2 daughters is my favorite thing to do. I would love to introduce them to Acoustic Dreamland.

I enjoy relaxing to Enya, Fairy Nightsongs, and a Hewlett Crist CD called Rio Grande songs - all accoustic guitar. My grandbabies love listening to music and have always gone to sleep to a variety of tunes...as well as spoken words. Nothing made them (or my now 26 year old son) go to sleep faster than listening to a narrated set of Eric Carle stories. My older son also liked to listen to Carly Simon Live when he was 3 to get to sleep :-) We love sleeping to music!

I began listening to soft music at bed time about 10 years ago. It really helps me relax before sleeping. I'm beginning to do this for my 15 mo. old little boy to help him go to sleep.

I have listened to Putumayo CDs for years! When I am relaxing at the beach, I especially like to put on a mix of songs from the Putumayo collection. They are always a hit!

My 11-month old son falls asleep to music from his crib mobile every night, but I'd love to switch him to CD's for bedtime. Putumayo CDs sound great to try!

I have enjoyed falling asleep to music since my college days. We also played music to calm out little ones when it was time for them to settle down and go to sleep.
