Organic Whole Chickens on Sale Today Only – 2/17

By Jennifer Cheng, February 17, 2012  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Jennifer Cheng

I’ve been looking forward to this all week!

Yes, today is the day that organic whole (uncooked) chickens are $1.99 per pound in our continental US stores.

You can pick up as many as 10 chickens, so it’s prime time to stock your freezer with flavorful whole chickens that were raised meeting the USDA’s organic standards:

  • No antibiotics, ever
  • Raised with access to the outdoors
  • Fed only organic, vegetarian feed

Remember, this sale is for one day only, so make sure you stop by today, February 17th.

Availability and limits may vary by region, so you can contact your store for details. While supplies last.

Most of our stores do not provide rain checks for sales like this.

All of our producer partners are rated by the Global Animal Partnership’s 5-Step™Animal Welfare Rating program. Learn more about the rating standards here.

I once overheard a fellow food-lover say, “If you don’t know what to do with chicken, I don’t know what to do with you!” I laughed, because it really does seem like you can do almost anything with chicken, short of eating it raw or dipping it in chocolate.

But the truth is, some people are new to cooking overall (like my college-kid sister) and learning how to cook chicken is a great way to start.

If you’re new to cooking chicken or just need some inspiration, here are some fabulous recipes that highlight the simple goodness of organic chicken to get you started:

Easy Marinated Roasted Chicken

Baked Orange Chicken

Oven-Fried Chicken

Baked Chicken with Spinach, Pears and Blue Cheese

Home-Style Roasted Chicken with Vegetables

Learn to Cook: Whole Grilled Chicken

Roasted Lemon-Herb Chicken

You can find more recipes and info about organic chicken here.

What do you plan on cooking with the organic whole chickens from today’s sale?

Share your favorite recipes and tips for our first-time chicken chefs and don’t forget to stop by our stores today to pick up fresh, ready-to-cook organic chickens for $1.99 per pound!

I went back to my whole foods and the manager Larry was kind & courteous, he handled the issue and I was satisfied with the outcome. I will continue to shop at whole foods. I know may have sounded harsh, It was my frustration typing... we drive an hour (one way) to our whole foods with a giant cooler in the trunk to buy our meat/protiens for the month. Last month I spent $400 just at the meat counter alone for our family of three. Then we come home and I vaacuum pack all of it for our freezer. It is time consuming & expensive, but I don't mind because the health of my family comes first! This was just one of those things that happen....especially since the store was super busy due to the sale.People make mistakes...including me. Maybe Whole Foods should consider putting them on sale more often!? Thanks Again to Whole Foods & Larry :)

How is this sale different from this weeks circular of Freebird chicken for $1.49/lb, other than the price?

@Teresa The Global Animal Partnership step rating may vary depending on the ranchers that provide organic chickens to your local store. Please check with your store directly and they'll be able to tell you. Thanks!

I bought 10 chickens yesterday from my michigan Whole Foods, what a deal right? wrong. They kept the chicken in the original packaging…they were NOT marked as Organic. The chicken come from Pine Manor in Indiana, look at their website….they are “natural” not organic. I does not mention organic or non-GMO feed either…just no antibiotics. These chickens are no different than the amish ones at your local supermarket that are “natural” as well. Even though it was a great deal yesterday…we are getting bamboozled the rest of the 364 days we purchase “organic” chicken at Whole Foods. I wish i had gotten what I paid for….shame on you Whole Foods! Don’t advertise something that you don’t intend on selling.
