Sale on Grass-fed Ground Beef - 9/3 Only

By Theo Weening, August 27, 2010  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Theo Weening
This is it, folks. The big news I've been promising you. All of our U.S. stores will help shoppers celebrate Labor Day by offering ground grass-fed beef at a sale price of just $3.99 per pound on September 3rd only. This is the perfect way to try out grass-fed beef if you haven't yet; and if you have, a perfect opportunity to stock up! Here's what I think are the most important aspects of grass-fed beef:
  • Grass-fed beef ranching is not only good for the animals, but involves managing natural resources and supporting local producers.
  • Grass-fed beef is a leaner choice and has a more favorable ratio of omega fatty acids.
  • Grass-fed beef is priced fairly for the producer and is worth every penny.
  • Grass-fed beef is a delicious alternative to grain-fed beef and cooks a little differently.
We've got more details on all of those aspects on our Grass-fed Beef page and you can read about our Grass-fed Rancher Partners and find out who supplies the grass-fed beef that you buy in your local Whole Foods Market. Very cool. Grill up some unique burgers befitting flavorful grass-fed beef: Don't forget to mark the date! September 3rd - One Day ONLY - $3.99 per Pound of Ground Grass-fed Beef. Let's fire up the grill and cook some beef!

@ Cindy Some of the grass-fed beef is organic, and you'll need to check the rancher partner who provides the beef for your local store to know what is available for you. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/grassfedbeef/ranchers.php All beef in our stores, grass-fed or otherwise, is not allowed to be given antibiotics or added growth hormones.

@papercut I checked with our meat experts and they say that the fat percentage may vary by region, so it's best to check that with your local store. Thanks!

Is it only ground grass fed that is 3.99, or is it other cuts of beef also? Is the ground like the other sales when it's this price, 3lbs or more??? Thanks.

The meat is select? What is the regular price? I know it will vary by area but roughly what is the regular price becuase $3.99 is still high for ground beef.

Grass-fed open-range beef should be less fatty than the regular feedlot beef (less marbling). My intuition is that, as a result, it should be grilled slower than the feedlot beef. But I am not sure. Does anybody has any advice on this topic?

@Sandy The regular price does vary, but I've seen an estimate of $6.99.

A better choice for the sale would be whole beef, since ground meats deteriorate very quickly after being ground and lose a lot of food value within fifteen minutes or so.

Seriously bummed that they were sold out when we went to get some in Dublin, OH today. It's not at all convenient getting there and I was really disappointed.

When is the next sale on grass-fed beef? How much is it per pound? I am allergic to beef in regular grocery stores and am looking for a source.
