CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER MARY FROM MADISON, WI. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS!
We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
Doug Beretta is a family man. He’s one of four generations in Beretta Family Organic Dairy, a supplier of organic milk for Wallaby Yogurt. The dairy is based on a ranch that was bought in 1948 by Beretta’s grandfather, where the pasture-raised cows graze today. According to Beretta, the advantages of pasture-raising their cows are many. “You’re able to utilize your own land for feed. Organic feed costs are starting to get very expensive so we’re able to use our land to produce as much of the feed as we can.” In addition to the nutritional value of feeding cows on the pasture, “being on grass instead of concrete is a lot easier on the feet and legs of cows,” says Beretta.
Wallaby’s founders were looking for family farms and pasture-based dairies with this type of commitment to their cows and their milk, so partnering with Beretta Family Organics made perfect sense.
What do you think about the changes that Beretta Family Organic Dairy made when they switched from conventional to organic processes? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 9th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores.

I'm glad to hear that efficiency is up after going organic. I worry about America's dairy farmers and hope that by going organic they're able to make a better living. I would be interested to know if Beretta Farms saw higher profit margins with the change to organic. I applaud companies like Wallaby who make a commitment to farmers and encourage them to make changes like this.

Wallaby produces a wonderfully unique yogurt in the US. I was pleased to see that Wallaby is located in the Napa Valley region and uses local dairies from that area. Napa Valley has great farmland and from what I understand a great community of farms and families that have lived there for multiple generations. The only thing that I would be concerned about with Baretta Organic Dairy is if there is a difference in the quality of milk produced by cows that have always been raised and treated organically versus cows that have some history of non-organic treatment but that was discontinued. This is probably a small issue whis is sufficiently addressed in doing what it takes to earn the designation of organic. Thank you Wallaby, for all you do!

It was a great a change and the fact that they didn't have to feed them as much and that the cows seemed overall more calm and happy to be producing milk at their own pace.

It's important for our future generations. These things have to happen slow and once it becomes a fad, we will be better off.

Being an organic yogurt is an added bonus! Wallaby has a great consistency and offers consumers a range of delicious flavors to choose from!! If I could make one suggestion I hope the amount of sugar can be decreased by just a little bit. The wholesome milk and fruit or other flavors will stand out more! :-)
