Tree-Cycling with Greenlimbs

We are proud to partner with Greenlimbs and our neighborhood civics & community leaders again as a host site for Tree-Cycling on Saturday, January 5 from 10am-4pm! Last year, Greenlimbs collected and chipped 338 Christmas trees along with holiday greens, keeping them out of landfill and giving the resulting mulch a second life in various neighborhood gardens. Suggested donations are $5 per tree and $3 per wreath, and the funds are used to cover the chipping labor costs with any resulting funds donated to Greenlimbs nonprofit activities.

National Croissant Day

It’s National Croissant Day! Although it is most likely just a myth, the history of the croissant is a colorful tale full of adventure. In 1683, the Turkish Empire laid siege on Vienna, Austria. The Turks made several attempts to enter the city by force, but were unsuccessful, so decided to dig an underground tunnel. The bakers of Vienna, who worked in the basement storerooms, heard the sound of digging and alerted the army.

National Pistachio Day

It’s National Pistachio Day! The pistachio is a small bushy tree native to the Middle East. It produces bunches of fruit (similar to grapes) and the pistachio nut is the seed of that fruit.
