Green Your Holidays
Be a Green Grinch this year and figure out how "It came without ribbons, It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags!" At least without the disposable kind. Go with reusable and earth-friendly wrappings instead!
The Wrappings
- Fabric gift bags — sew small drawstring bags or simply wrap gifts with a large piece of holiday-themed cloth and tie with a wide ribbon
- Reuseable gift bags — try our A Better Bag. You can't find a better use of recycled plastic bottles than these delightful bags. Your gift recipients get two gifts in one!
- Save paper from wrapped gifts for other uses: make your own gift tags or thank you notes
- When you do use wrapping paper, go for the high-quality kind that can be reused year after year (if you teach the kids not to tear it when unwrapping!)
- Don’t forget to save those bows and ribbons too!
The Trappings
- Send an e-card instead of paper greeting cards
- Take any cards you receive and turn them into gift tags or postcard thank-you notes, or cut them into tree ornaments
- Recycle the cardboard from your gifts
- Check out earth911.org to learn about ways to recycle old gadgets being replaced by the latest technology
- Mulch that tree!
