Yogurt, applesauce and frozen juice concentrate are a few of the secret ingredients in this cholesterol-free chocolate cake that ensure this sweet dessert doesn't skimp on flavor.
Ingredients
1 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons nonfat plain yogurt
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 egg whites
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 cup frozen apple juice concentrate, thawed
1/2 cup maple syrup
Method
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8- or 9-inch baking dish; set aside. Mix flours, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt together in a bowl; set aside. Mix yogurt, applesauce, egg whites, oil, apple juice concentrate and syrup together in a separate bowl, then add to the flour mixture and beat until well combined. Pour batter into prepared dish and bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the cake's center comes out clean.
