Quarterly Programs *We are currently accepting applications for Donate Your Dime and 5% Day*
Donate Your Dime (formally Change for Change)
Did you know that Whole Foods Market gives 10 cents per bag to customers who re-use their own shopping bags for their purchased groceries? This program reduces our impact on the environment and now supports local non-profit groups. Customers have the choice to accept their cash refund, or donate the cash back to the store’s chosen non-profit organization or to the Whole Planet Foundation. One local non-profit is chosen each quarter to receive the Donate Your Dime option. To apply be a Donate Your Dime recipient, please complete and submit a Donate Your Dime Application.
Here are our 2012 Donate Your Dime Recipients:
- Quarter 1 (September 26, 2011 to January 15, 2012): American Children’s Orchestras for Peace is a non-profit foundation which provides after-school music instruction to underprivileged children in public schools, parks, and community centers to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness that often leads to juvenile violence. This year-round program is designed to provide instruments and free lessons to underserved, at-risk children in Miami-Dade County, using music to improve individual achievement, social skills, parental involvement, and ultimately – children’s lives.
- Quarter 2 (January 16 to April 8, 2012): Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit donor-supported organization established 1955, is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis, and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disease that afflicts 30,000 adults and children in the United States and 70,000 people worldwide. It causes debilitating lung infections that lead to premature death. Funds raised by the Foundation (including events like Miami’s Great Strides) have helped spur dramatic progress in the lives of those who have cystic fibrosis.
- Quarter 3 (April 9 to July 1, 2012): Police Officer Assistance Trust was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit support organization for the law enforcement community of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Our mission is to provide assistance to officers and their families in times of hardship, personal crisis, or critical need. There was no resource or organization in place to assist officers who were facing devastating situations until POAT was formed. Since its inception, POAT has helped law enforcement families through catastrophic circumstances brought about by accident, illness, or injury. Assistance is primarily financial, but has extended to other support including information, referrals, and counseling.
- Quarter 4 (July 2 to September 30, 2012): Friends Forever Human Society, a non-profit established over 10 years ago, are devoted to saving homeless, abandoned animals and finding them a loving home. They are 100% no kill meaning they provide veterinary care, food, shelter, and love until they find a loving home, no matter how long it takes. All operating costs are made through donations and fundraisers. Funds will go towards operations costs and spay/neuter clinic to help overpopulation.
