second friday notes is a literary series that takes place on the second Friday evening of every month in our café. The hour-and-a-half show features two or more poets and one musical performer or group. July poets are Adrian Matejka and Chris Paar. Adrian Matejka has several published books of poetry. He teaches poetry and literature at SIU-Edwardsville, but will be at Indiana University this coming school year. Young, energetic and cutting edge; Chris Paar is a native New Zealander who teaches religion and philosophy at Webster University. He is co-curator of the Chance Operations poetry series at Duff’s in Central West End St. Louis. Gig Thurmond is a self-styled singer-songwriter who shares some characteristics with Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. St. Louis poet, Dwight Bitikofer is the emcee for the event, which is co-sponsored by the St. Louis Poetry Center.
