Secure the Call Places Barrel at Its 200th Whole Foods Market Store

by arabellastation, March 28, 2009 | Permalink

Just learned that the company we’ve been working with to recycle cell phones, Secure the Call, has placed its 200th cell phone collection barrel in our stores! Very exciting as we have more than 275 stores!

When Secure the Call started, they concentrated on the Mid-Atlantic area and now work with over 250 Community Partners and redistribute recycled cell phones to thousands of needy citizens every month. They are an all-volunteer organization and rely solely on the generosity of the community.

We’re proud to partner with them! The barrels are available at all three Louisiana stores.

For more information on Secure the Call, call 301-891-2900.

Proud of Arabella Station and Veterans!

by arabellastation, March 21, 2009 | Permalink

Very proud of Arabella Station and Veterans for raising more than $8,500 for Best Buddies Louisiana this past Wednesday! It was 5% Day whereby the stores donate five percent of net sales to a non-profit organization.

A big THANK YOU goes out to our Guests for their part in supporting Best Buddies, whose mission is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with a range of intellectual disabilities through one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Best Buddies pairs e-buddies and middle school, high school, and college students with buddies statewide. The March 18th 5% Day will fund local and statewide programs.

In addition, Whole Foods Market will sponsor Best Buddies’ Moveable Feast in Baton Rouge Thursday, April 16th and the Wild Game Gala in October. For more information on Best Buddies and their activities or to volunteer, visit www.bestbuddieslouisiana.org.

Who Likes Lemon Scent in Their Cleaning Products?

by arabellastation, March 21, 2009 | Permalink

I love it! Recently had the pleasure of going on WBOK’s E-Talk Saturday program and we discussed a variety of cleaning products. One grabbed my attention that I had not tried before. You should read a few of these products’ labels as you will learn some surprising things, such as Bon Ami’s symbol is the chick because in the first few days of life, chicks do not scratch for food and thus the Bon Ami will not scratch your porcelain surfaces when used for cleaning. You’ll see the little chick on the front of their packaging.

Well, it was EcoPath’s Dishwashing Liquid that caught my eye. Manufactured by Cassiopeia, the EcoPath Lemongrass Dishwashing Liquid is my new favorite product. Incredible scent that actually makes the chore of washing dishes less of a bore, at least for me that is. It’s all in the aromatherapy!

The company was founded in 1981 and was the first business to introduce biodegradable cleaning products to the Brazilian market. Their mission is “to enhance the quality of life and health of all of its friends and clients through the use of natural products, while at the same time respecting the environment that supplies us with ingredients.”

Cassiopeia’s farm is certified Biodynamic and by the Rainforest Alliance. The company uses certified Organic/Biodynamic Aloe Vera in the entire EcoPath line to provide natural cleaning enzymes. You can find out more about Cassiopeia at www.cassiopeiaonline.com.br.

What you’ll find with green cleaning products is that they use plant and fruit essences which have amazing natural powers to get the job done. Mother Nature at its best!

Project Green Prom - Make Your Video at Arabella & Veterans - March 21st

by arabellastation, March 14, 2009 | Permalink

Area high school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to make their own three-minute video at Arabella Station and Veterans from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21st for the Teens Turning Green “Project Green Prom” national video contest. Teens Turning Green is one of our Earth Month body care partners and they kicked off “Project Green Prom” for teens to compete for a trip to New York City, green prom dress and shoes, green teen lounge with refreshments from Whole Foods Market, and other prizes. Details are available at www.teensturninggreen.org.

On the 21st, the stores will have a camera available to make the video for eligible teens and then load the video for them on the Teens Turning Green website. In addition, there will be samples of Teens Turning Green products and others such as Burt’s Bees.

Of course, teens are welcome to enter a video on their own and the contest concludes March 30th.

How Making Groceries Helps a Community Partner - March 18th

by arabellastation, March 14, 2009 | Permalink

This is one of the things I love about working for Whole Foods. Every quarter, we partner with an organization and donate the net sales from a specified day to that group. They come in the store and educate our team members and guests about the wonderful things they do and 5% of everything that guests and team members purchase is donated to the non-profit. How cool is that?!

Even better, we’re combining forces on March 18th with the Veterans store to raise as much as we can for Best Buddies, whose mission is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with a range of intellectual disabilities through one-to-one friendships and integrated employment. Best Buddies pairs e-buddies and middle school, high school and college students with buddies statewide.

So, what we can all do to make this day special is to save the main shopping of the week for March 18th. Very easy way to support a great organization and remember your reusuable bags! For more information, visit www.bestbuddies.org.
