Talkin’ Turkey

by arlington-tx, October 21, 2009 | Permalink

Gobble, gobble and all that good stuff.  Nothin’ says Thanksgiving better than the Arlington store’s annual Taste of Thanksgiving!  It’s a night of mouth-watering holiday favorites served up by the Team Members.  The event is Wednesday, November 11th, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.  A little birdie told me smoked turkey will be sampled along with new and tradtional sides!!!  Of course there’s always something sweet at the end of the line, not to mention great, live music (the same birdie said this year it’s a Brazilian style-Bosa Nova band!!!)  So be sure to mark your calendar!

Happy for Happy Hill Farm Academy

by arlington-tx, September 19, 2009 | Permalink

Leave it to Whole Foods Market to give back to the community in a big way!  This past Wednesday, September 16th, the Arlington Whole Foods Market had a 5% Community Giving Day, which in a nutshell means they donated 5% of their net sales to a charity of choice . . . the lucky recipient was Happy Hill Farm Academy.  For me, it was business as usual-shop, shop, shop!  Seriously, that’s all anyone has to do when they happen to be in a Whole Foods Market during a 5% Day.  Talk about generosity at its best.  There was even a counselor from Happy Hill Farm Academy set up in the store so I could ask questions about the organization or get in on the raffles to win an autographed Cowboys football and tickets to a Monday night game!  Oh, I forgot to mention that Happy Hill has several houses at the academy, one of which is the Dallas Cowboys Courage House (hence the raffles).  Yeah, it was pretty cool.  I checked out Whole Foods website a couple of days later and saw that they’d raised over $2600 for the academy (and it even rained that day!!!)  I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna keep my eyes peeled for these 5% Days because I know of NO other retailer where I can help a non-profit by simply grocery shopping.

10 Years and counting . . .

Time flies - it really does.  I mean, it’s hard to believe the Arlington Whole Foods Market has been around for 10 years!  And if you’ve ever been in this Whole Foods, you know they ALWAYS do something way-fun when there’s something special happening . . . this Saturday is no exception!

Have you seen their lineup for tomorrow’s 10-year celebration?  Live music, Crazy Water’s dunking booth, giveaways, cake, vendors and a kids’ cake walk . . . talk about a party.

So, what other grocer does it up like Whole Foods Market?  No one.  Seriously, 10 years never looked so good.  Happy Birthday, Arlington!!!

Slice of Heaven

Have you heard?! Whole Foods Market has killer Ice Box Pies just in time for summer!  Talk about a great gift for dad this Father’s Day.

These pies are mouthwatering:  Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Key Lime and Strawberry Margarita.

And their famous Dazzle Pies are back as well (currently on sale for $6.49 each).  These local pies come in 3 fantastic flavors: Lemon Drop, Pineapple and Tangerine.  Yummy!

What’s super cool is the fact you can buy the whole pie, half OR just a slice.

Don’t Tie One On . . .

Father’s Day is literally around the corner so you’d best get on the stick!  The key is doing something memorable and meaningful, not necessarily expensive or even cheap.

I remember my daddy always smiled when he got a tie, but as an adult I’m convinced he was thinking, “For the love of Pete!  Not another tie.”  Why the tie has become synonymous with Father’s Day is beyond me.

Had I had my own moola as a kid, I would have bought my dear old dad something he would have truly appreciated - steak and suds!  That’s why this Father’s Day I’m buying the best steaks, seafood and beer from Whole Foods Market.

Dog Days of Summer

by arlington-tx, May 8, 2009 | Permalink

I don’t know about you, but I am NOT ready for summer.  Do I love the fact I can stay outside until 9 pm and still feel as if my day is not over?  Of course, but I’m referring to the Texas heat taking over my senses, not to mention my weekends!  I want my 2-days off to be an adventure in fun, not an exercise in hibernation.  My saving grace is going to Whole Foods Market on Saturdays, where the temperatures are perfect and the atmosphere refreshing.  You never know what to expect - could be live music, a food contest, a kids’ event or just great people watching!  Whatever’s on the calendar, this store has what it takes to soothe that savage beast - the dog days of summer.

A Grocer with a Heart

by arlington-tx, February 13, 2009 | Permalink

I love Valentine’s Day - flowers, chocolate, cupid and amour.  I equally love Whole Foods Market for all the fabulous food and creative gifts they offer this time of year.

But this is one grocer that shows the love 24-7, 365 days a year.  I’m referring to their Whole Trade Guarantee AND Whole Planet Foundation.  Personally, the 2 go hand-in-hand because they are helping producers and workers in developing countries who supply me, the shopper, with first rate products.

The Whole Trade Guarantee is just that - a promise to provide more money to producers (sometimes more than Fair Trade offers) PLUS better working conditions and higher wages for workers, to name a few things.  Here’s the really cool part - once I purchase bananas, coffee and any other Whole Trade products, the company then gives 1% of the sale (out of their own pocket, mind you) to their Whole Planet Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to ending poverty and hunger through what is known as micro-credit loans.

I just don’t know of another grocer that puts their money where their mouth is, literally.  So, this Valentine’s Day I’m going to make sure I give back some love by purchasing Whole Trade products.

Hump Day is no Slump Day!

by arlington-tx, January 23, 2009 | Permalink

Growing up my mother always did her grocery shopping on Wednesdays.  Being a kid I assumed she did so because it was the middle of the week - “Hump Day.”  I now realize Wednesdays were the day when the sales fliers hit, and Mom was a sales-shopping, coupon cutting fool!  But “like mother, like daughter,” I, too, look for great sales and collect coupons like a stamp collector.  So when Whole Foods Market, my #1 grocer, began offering 2 Sales Flyer Wednesdays, my “Hump Day” instantly became my “No Slump Day.”  Like a blast from the past, shopping on Wednesdays meant twice as many items and twice as much value.  And with their new Whole Deal newsletters, not only do I get recipes, informative food tips, and Martha Stewart’s stamp of approval, BUT I get coupons galore.  But wait - it gets better.  Whole Foods Market also offers 10% Off Case prices.  So, if I want to buy a case of my favorite cookies, and they just happen to be on sale, then I get the sale price ON TOP of the case discount price.  You can’t beat that with a stick. . . . my mother agrees.
