A (monthly) call to all Mom’s!

Do you know a mom? Are you a mom yourself? If so, think about these facts:
Laundry: 88% is done by moms, totaling 330 loads of laundry & 5,300 articles of clothing each year. Send out a psychic ‘thank-you’ to a mom the next time you put on a clean pair of drawers.
“Mommy, Mom, Ma, Mama!” Preschooler requires their mother’s attention once every 4 minutes or 210 times per day. Imagine that going on for several years and maybe you’ll be a little less judgmental next time you see that mom pushing a cart and crying in the cereal aisle.
All jokes aside, being a mother myself I recall only to well the incessant shortage of ‘me time’ when my children were younger. Top that off with the urban-legend of ‘it gets better as they get older’ and it’s a small wonder most moms can even get out of bed each day.
Let’s face it. The majority of the times we Mom’s schedule our lives around our loved ones.
We arrange play dates so our children can work out their pent-up energy. We arrange our daily routine around children’s nap times so they’ll get rest when cranky or over-tired. We’re flexible when the men in our lives need their ”night out with the boys” or a rousing afternoon of golf (fit in any other obsession here). All of these activities seem to do both the children and the men in our lives a world of good after a hard week. But what do we do for ourselves?
This month, Whole Foods Market Aventura and Baby Posh Garage sent out a “call to all Moms”, inviting them to take a morning off and relax. Mothers of all ages gathered in the cafe over coffee (aka: the nectar of the Moms) and freshly baked pastries in our café to relax, recharge, and most importantly to reconnect with other women.
We demonstrated how to make your own all natural bath salts and exfoliating scrubs and everyone took home several selections to try. (The Love Potion was a particular favorite.)
If you’ve never tried them before, check out my blog “Scrub away the Stress”. Not only do they work wonders on your skin, they are also cheap to make and establish you as the ‘cool and creative’ one in your group. Add that to the fact that you feel ‘just-left-the spa-soft’ when you use them and spoiled silly. Not bad for about 5 minutes of effort.
To assuage any of that mommy-guilt over taking time for you, we gave away 25% coupons to pick up something for the little one at the uber-chic Baby Posh Garage in Aventura. If you haven’t visited yet, set a date to do so now.
Co-owner Julie Tanenbaum carries a wide range of children’s products, specializing in ages 0-5 yrs old. Whether you are buying or selling, this store will keep your wallets full and your kids looking oh-so-POSH! Best of all, you’ll be doing your part to reduce, reuse and recycle!
Whether your own children are still in the stroller or they’ve long since flown the nest, stop by next month (Thursday, June 11th @ 9:30am) as we make new friends, learn something new and share our own tips and tricks with other Mom’s.
Bring a friend and you will also both receive a $10 coupon off a future Whole Foods Market purchase! Children are welcome. Pre-registration is recommended.
