Passover Traditions

by jenkintown, March 17, 2010 | Permalink

Passover is just around the corner and many of us have already started cleaning our homes to prepare. I remember cleaning our pantry and covering the chumatz area with paper. My mother had this worn out yellow shirt with a picture of matzoh and the words “I found it”. Every year she’d give the same shirt to the person who found the afikoman. Our Demo Specialist just told me about her tradition of making “fish yuk”, a gravy she makes using gefilte fish jelly and onions. What’s your favorite memory or tradition from Passover?

p.s. don’t forget to join us Wednesday, March 24th from 4-7pm for our Passover sampling event.

My Journey to Good Health

If you haven’t heard, Whole Foods Market has a new program promoting healthy eating education and support. The program, called Health Starts Here, is designed to teach our customers and Team Members about making smart food choices and how to prepare key ingredients to make delicious meals that promote good health. Now I’ve been a vegetarian for 25 years and a vegan for 13. You’d think that means I have this amazing diet loaded with fresh fruits and veggie, right? Not quite. I absolutely love veggies but for some reason my diet has been horrible lately. Since the birth of my 2nd daughter 3 months ago it seems like it’s gotten even worse. Today, I think I polished off about 15 cookies! I spend so much time making healthy meals for my toddler that I often forget to enjoy them myself. I think if I don’t eat any of what I make for her that there will be enough leftover for another meal for her. I’m caught in the same trap many moms are in… kids at the top of the list, mom at the bottom. I know I’ve got to make a real change! My jeans are tight and I don’t feel very good about myself. I’m going to start with baby steps… more veggies and a little exercise. I’ll keep you posted with my progress.
