Welcome!

Welcome to the Whole Foods Market Raleigh blog! This is designed to be a link between the store and community and a resource for shopping wisely among the aisles of this fine establishment. While the focus of this blog is going to be primarily on value and current good deals to take advantage of, it will also be a place where the exciting spirit of the store will be captured and shared with the world.

It is a popular time of year for parties and this is a great time to take advantage of some deals that seem to come up at this time. I look forward to this time of year because it typically means that avocadoes go on sale. I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the essential ingredients for making guacamole are on sale! Avocadoes are on sale for 99 cents, a great time to pick up a few! Cilantro is on sale for 50 cents a bunch, limes are on sale for 25 cents each. As adventurous as many people get with avocadoes, my favorite is still the old faithful: Guacamole. It can be prepared in so many different ways, but I like to keep it simple. I use one avocado, one lime, one roma tomato, one clove of garlic, a few sprigs of cilantro, half a jalepeno, and a dash of salt. It is easy to mulitply this, just keep the proportions in mind.

Also for the big parties this weekend, look out for dip mixes to be on sale (the Simply Organic line is fantastic) and also chips. Kettle Chips are on sale for 3 bags for $5 and the big bags are 2 for $7. You won’t find them cheaper anywhere else! Also, for the more adventurous, Food Should Taste Good chips are also on sale for 3 for $5. They have a different twist on the traditional chip and have flavors like Jalepeno, Buffalo, Sweet Potato, and Chocolate.

Jen in Seafood is excited that the Yellow Grouper is on sale this week and says that it is awesome with Alan’s tartar sauce (that he makes right there in the store). The yellow grouper is a higher quality than what you would typically find and is preferred by many chefs. It is on sale this week for $16.99 a pound, three dollars off!

There are also some great deals in the meat department and will make it easy to indulge in all your favorites for the party! Whole chicken fryers are only 99 cents a pound right now, which makes an entire chicken only $3-4. If buying a whole chicken seems intimidating (I don’t blame you), just ask anyone in the meat department to cut it up for you. They would be happy to help, and you will get a great deal.

Specialty has some great deals on cheese right now, an easy option for entertaining. They have some fantastic cheese balls (in either port wine or sharp cheddar) for only $3.99. Pick up some 365 crackers, Spanish nuts, and some olives off the bar and you have yourself a party platter!
