South Loop Awarded LEED Gold Status

Whole Foods Market South Loop is proud to announce that we have been awarded LEED Gold Status! LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is a certification program created by the U.S. Green Building Council. Gold is the second highest rating that can be awarded. We are proud to be the first LEED certified store in the Midwest Region and the highest rated store in our company.
Participating in this program meant choosing the most environmentally sound materials and machinery while building the interior of our store. From fly-ash in our concrete floors to using the energy coming off the refrigeration system to heat our water, each step of construction and design had to be carefully executed.
In an effort to spread the word about our new LEED status as well as to inspire our community to join us in getting greener in 2009, we our sponsoring a new green lecture series in our Whole Lifestyle Center called Green Resolutions. Beginning January 21 we will host a different green organization or business every Wednesday night through March to help out community members find ways to green their lives.
