Bee Appreciation Week
by Megan, April 30, 2009 | Permalink

This past week our store hosted Bee Appreciation Week. We had various fun activities throughout the week supporting honey bee awareness. Saturday was the busiest day so far with our main event at the entrance of our store. It included; Matt Reed from Beethinking.com brought in his observation hive, seed planting and cookie decorating for the kids, Haagen Dazs Vanilla Honey Bee Ice Cream tasting, compost and recycling sorting activity, and even a spelling bee. We also had a vendor in with Italian honey, another with local honey, and another with honey vinegar. It was a great way to top of a fun week of spreading knowledge about honey bees.

We here at Whole Foods Market are excited to be celebrating Earth Day today! Our team members are dressed in green apparel to show their support for mother earth. Some team members even used re-usable bags to create articles of clothing such as vests and hats!
We are also having a 5% day in honor of ‘Growing Gardens.’ This organization helps families with low incomes start a garden that will provide them with long term healthy nourishment. We’ve also been teaching classes throughout the day in our store about recycling, composting, and living green.
