Battle of the Cupcakes: We Have A Winner!!!
It was the sweetest competition we have ever had to judge here at Whole Foods Market Bethesda! So many of you contributed the most delicious of entries to our first ever Battle of the Cupcakes to raise money for the Whole Planet Foundation. We poured through the entries you submitted via Twitter, Facebook, and blog comments and picked our five finalists.
And I spent last Sunday bringing the flavor combinations to life in the kitchen. Please note I had to make a few minor tweaks to some of the entries to make them but but the changes were very minor. Each of the cupcakes had to contain at least one ingredient that Whole Foods Markets sources from a country that has received microcredits through the Whole Planet Foundation. Those ingredients are shown below each cupcakes.
Finalist #1
Amanda submitted a banana cupcake with chocolate cream inside topped with coffee-cinnamon icing.
Finalist #2
Molly submitted a light candied ginger cupcake stuffed with fresh blueberry filling and covered with a nice thick layer of cinnamon ginger buttercream.
Finalist #3
Meagan submitted vanilla cinnamon cupcake with a frosting made of nutella, cocoa, chopped cashews, and a dash of coffee.
Finalist #4
And one of our Facebook friends (we’re still trying to track down your name! If you are the one who submitted this flavor via Facebook, post a comment below!) submitted a dark chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting.

Finalist #5
Anthony submitted a S’mores Cupcake with cinnamon chocolate chip cake and topped with marshmallow frosting and a piece of chocolate.
A total of 250 cupcakes were then distributed to team members at Whole Foods Market Bethesda for judging. And the winner was…
The dark chocolate with peanut butter buttercream frosting! This cupcake will be on sale in the Whole Foods Market Bethesda Bakery starting at the end of the week and remain on sale through the end of the Whole Planet Foundation fundraiser at the end of March. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of these cupcakes will be donated to the Whole Planet Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who entered the Battle of the Cupcakes. And congratulations to our finalists and our winner! We will be getting in touch with the five finalists about your prizes soon!
