Eating Local for the Weekend
by om, July 15, 2011 | Permalink
Good morning all challengers! What’s your breakfast look like this morning?
Is it fresh chevre from Sweet Grass Dairy on a local Goldberg’s bagel? Did you add some fresh Georgia peaches from Pearson farms to your Atlanta Fresh Yogurt? How about some granola from Grawnola?

Day 10- Dropping Like Flies
by om, January 27, 2011 | Permalink
All around me there are team members that are showing off their new figures and proud to talk about all the pounds they have been dropping. The level of energy and enthusiasm that everyone has is contagious.
Many have the same stories of…”it was really hard at first” and “i feel great now and i can’t stop after seeing the results!” Team members are all keeping each other motivated and in check. Almond milk is everyone’s new favorite and big green salads are being inhaled like never before. It’s so great to see everyone so happy and of course healthy!
Our health screening is coming up next month and we’re all excited to see our own results! Oh yea! Everyone is going platinum baby!

DAY 6: CONFESSIONS
by om, January 22, 2011 | Permalink
It is day 6 and to stay true to myself and the 1000′s of 28 day challengers I must confess. Last night while out clubbing I enjoyed several glasses of top shelf vodka, and on my way home I bought a honey bun (so ashamed), but with the rising of the SUN comes a new day and mentally Iam back on track. Today I will consume my daily amount of water (100 oz.) in efforts to cleanse my physical of the vodka I consume last night; eat a BIG-OLE healthy salad, and hit the gym after work that should help get me back on track physically. (Healthy Hint) Little things like making the Engine 2 Diet logo my screen saver and wearing the red arm band is great for continuous motivation. This is (NICK HICK) saying don’t give up or give in; stay strong-plant strong.

Milk Alternatives…
by om, January 20, 2011 | Permalink
In participating in the 28 Day Challenge, I am curious what the alternatives are to what we habitually eat and drink everyday. In this case I am trying alternatives to Milk. I’ve stocked my fridge with Almond Milk, Coconut Milk and Rice Milk. All three have their unique tastes which has been a great option in my refrigerator. I thought the transition to these new products would be difficult, but I really am enjoying the variety I have to choose from. I’ve been using the Rice Milk in my cereals, the Almond for a sweet and flavorful glass of milk at any given time in the day and the coconut for recipes that call for Milk. Never did I think I would enjoy a plant based milk substitute over the animal produced version so much. Give it a try!

Day 3 of 28 Day Challenge (Engine 2 DIET)
by om, January 19, 2011 | Permalink
Day three of the 28 day challenge and I feel GREAT!! Not sure if it is mental or physical, but I seem to have more of a pep in my step. So far my budget has only allowed me to survive off of apples, granola, olive salad and water, but nonetheless I feel better then I did three days ago. With a little exercise and self discipline I am curving my thirst for junk food, dairy and meat, so I must say I’m proud of myself. This is your man (Nick Hick) checking in on day three, saying for all the challengers keep up the good work and have faith in yourself. ( u can do it)

Meet ANDI at a Healthy Eating Tour
by om, December 29, 2010 | Permalink
When I started learning about nutrient density and ANDI scores, it was a foreign language. My grandmother always told me to eat more greens and more beans. As usual, she was right about this.
“We know an enormous amount about the links between nutrition and health. But the real science has been buried beneath a clutter of irrelevant or even harmful information—junk science, fad diets and food industry propaganda.”- The China Study (2005)
It turns out that beans are a great source of healthy fats. Green vegetables, like kale and collard greens*, have a ANDI score of 1000. What’s an ANDI score? It stands for “Aggregate Nutrient Density Index.” The higher the ANDI score, the higher the nutrient density. Pretty simple concept, right?
On our healthy eating tours that are scheduled throughout the month of January, we’ll be discussing ANDI and so much more. Check out our event calendar.

* this is not referring to the southern style collard greens that are cooked in pork fat.
