For the past 7 months our Lifestyle Center has been closed as we remodeled our store. On Monday, July 5 we will be re-opening our Lifestyle Center for cooking classes.
Our resident chef, Chef Lynn, has prepared a variety of classes to help everyone learn how to cook and eat better. In addition to Chef Lynn’s classes we will have other guests who will help you learn more about raw food, making your own cleaning products, or even learn more about wine.
As part of our re-opening we will be welcoming four local chefs into our kitchen. On Thursday, July 29 Chef Carlos Fernandez of Hi-Life Café and Chef Mark Militello of Trina Restaurant will be teaching classes. On Friday, July 30 Chef Jeremy Ford of 3030 Ocean and Chef Chris Miracolo of Himmarshee Bar & Grille will be teaching classes. This is a great opportunity to get a intimate cooking class from some great area chefs.
To view a list of classes be sure to visit the Lifestyle Center page on our website: http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/fortlauderdale/lifestyle-center/.

Holiday Register Donations for Local Food Bank
by fortlauderdale, November 18, 2009 | Permalink
From November 14 through December 15, we are taking register donations for one of our local food banks. The Blessings Pantry, located in Pompano Beach, provides food to families in need 5 days a week. The Blessings Pantry has seen the need for food increase over the past few years. 2 years ago they assisted about 40 people a week. Currently they are assisting at least 250 people per week.
According to the New York Times, the number of Americans who are not consistently receiving access to adequate food has risen by 13 million people from last year. Although we are all hearing reports that the economy is improving, there are still plenty of our neighbors who don’t get enough to eat every day.
Why not help if you can? 100% of your donation will go to purchase food for the pantry. You can donate $1, $2, or $5 as you check out. It’s a great way to help local people in need while you’re doing your shopping.

We’ll have demos throughout the store, live music inside and out, and The Electric Bicycle Store will be by to give demonstrations on electric bicycles. 5% Day on July 23 to benefit Sea Turtle Conservation
by fortlauderdale, July 21, 2009 | Permalink
This Thursday, July 23, we’ll be having a 5% Day to benefit the Museum of Discovery & Science. 5% of that day’s net sales will be donated to the Museum of Discovery & Science’s Sea Turtle Conservation program. The museum helps to teach people about the importance of conservation and conducts sea turtle walks every summer. Did you know that only 1 in every 1,000 baby sea turtle hatchling makes it to adulthood? Sea turtles are an important aspect of our state’s ecosystem and their survival is important to help us as humans survive. So stop by on Thursday, meet some people from the museum, and do a little shopping to help out a great local organization.

Let’s Go Ride a Bike!
by fortlauderdale, June 2, 2009 | Permalink
On Saturday, June 13 from 11am to 1pm Whole Foods Market Ft. Lauderdale, in conjunction with The Electric Bicycle Store will be offering free test rides of the Ultra Motor A2B electric bicycle in our parking lot.
Electric bicycle, you say. Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose of having a bike in the first place? And if you ride an electric bike, why not just have a scooter or a moped?
Well an electric bike rides just like a conventional bike so you can pedal and get your exercise. But it also has a motor that can go up to 20 MPH without pedaling. And that’s great for going over drawbridges, when you need a little extra oomph or when you just don’t feel like pedaling after being at the beach all day.
And unlike a scooter or a moped an electric bike has zero-emissions and is great for the environment.
This is the perfect Father’s Day gift for that dad who has everything, wants to ride a bike to work, and loves the environment.
So if this sounds like the bike for you (or your dad!) stop by our store on June 13th to give the bike a whirl. The first 30 people who test ride the Ultra Motor A2B that day will receive a free $5 Whole Foods Market gift card. All test riders must be 18 years of age or older and must sign a waver.

Destination Summer!
by fortlauderdale, May 21, 2009 | Permalink
Summer is right around the corner. The kids are getting out of school, you’re going to the beach, hanging out at the pool, having people over, and celebrating the holidays. So what foods and drinks do you serve to everyone?
Everyone wants to have really great tasting food at their summer events. But how do you feed your family something they think tastes good but makes you feel good about giving it to them? Shop at Whole Foods Market!
Summer is a great time for produce. Right now we have mangos, local corn, cherries, watermelon and tons of other fruits and vegetables that are fresh and refreshing. Our Meat department is crowded with a variety of different meats for the grill. And our meat is all grain fed and have never been given any steroids, additional hormones, antibiotics or nitrates.
Or visit our Whole Body department. We have body care products including sunscreen, insect repellent, and lotions for poison ivy. And none of our Whole Body products have ever been tested on animals.
Want more information or want a sample of some of the great things we have to offer? Then stop by our Destination Summer event taking place this Saturday, May 23rd from 11am to 3pm. We’ll have samples throughout the store, free face painting for the kids, and a live steel drum player. We’ll also have a free Kid’s Corner from 11am to 1pm where we’ll be decorating cards for the troops. And in keeping with honoring the men and women who serve overseas to protect our country we’ll have a Giving Grill from 11:30am to 3pm – you can purchase burgers, hot dogs, drinks and ice cream. All proceeds from the Giving Grill will be given to the USO, a non-profit organization that’s dedicated to supporting the troops by providing morale and welfare services to men and women in uniform.
Don’t forget to pick up a copy of our summer brochure while you’re here. There are great tips and recipes for you to use all summer long!

Whole Planet Foundation Campaign Results
by fortlauderdale, April 9, 2009 | Permalink
Thank you to all of our customers and team members who donated to the Whole Planet Foundation campaign that we did from mid-February until the end of March. As a result of your generosity the Florida region raised $143,166 and the Ft. Lauderdale store raised $8,302. The funds the region raised will go to microloans that directly impact 755 people living in communities where we source products that our customers purchase. Thanks again to everyone who was involved in helping this great organization that helps people get a hand up, not a hand out.
