Community Giving

At Whole Foods Market we give back to the community in many ways, from product donations, to our 5% Community Support Day, Donate your Small Change for Big Change Program and Scrip through Great Lakes. Please read on for more information on these programs.

In response to the incredible interest we’ve had from our communities for a gift card fundraising program, our non-profit and school customers can now purchase WFM gift cards from Great Lakes.  Here are the details:

  • Qualifying schools and non-profits can purchase WFM cards at a 3% discount
  • There is no cap, so organizations will not visit the site and find “sold-out” messaging
  • To set up a program or purchase cards, simply fill out an enrollment form on Great Lakes website.

Whole Foods Market has specific guidelines for the organizations we are able to support through donations. In addition to being a 501c3, you must fall must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Environmental Preservation and Conservation
  • Preventative Health Care
  • Hunger Relief
  • Organic Farming/Sustainable Food Resources
  • Animal Compassion

Because Whole Foods Market believes in being an active community member, requests from other civic and charitable groups will be considered if the organization is in the immediate vicinity of a store location, meets our core values, and funding is available.

We do not donate foods to individuals, individuals seeking pledges, multiple requests from the same organization or organizations and/or causes. Each approved organization is restricted to one donation per year from any and all Whole Foods Market. Past support of an organization or an event is not a guarantee of future support.

We support our community and environment by donating food, resources and funds to non-profit organizations, local schools and community events. Our everyday overstock items are given to local organizations like Project Quest, St Francis, Urban Gleaners and Sisters of the Road. We have also donated to The Pongo Fund, Oregon Food Bank, Sunshine Food Pantry, Friends of Trees, Friends of Portland Community Gardens, Northwest Housing Alternatives, Music Millennium and Sunnyside Environmental School. For questions on our donation programs, please contact helen.lee@wholefoods.com or download our application form here.
