    If you’re looking to improve your skills and be more comfortable in the kitchen, this is the class for you. The knowledge and skills learned in this class will provide a solid foundation that you will use in the kitchen for the rest of your life. You will be introduced to the fundamental concepts behind making excellent food.

    For a portion of this class we will cover basic knife skills and cutting techniques and then use these skills in some basic food preparations. Pre-registration is required.

    We will demonstrate each method by preparing an item using that technique. On the menu:

    Glycine max, more commonly known as the soybean, can be found in many dishes in many forms- soy milk, whole soy beans, tofu and many soy foods.     Three cheers for stinky cheese! If you’re a blue cheese lover or simply want a primer in the more adventurous side of cheese, check this class out. The blue cheese family is wide and diverse: some are mild and almost sweet, some are funky and pungent, and all can be used in a myriad of ways, from appetizer platter to dessert. We will discuss the different varieties of blue cheese and how to select a good blue and dine upon a blue cheese centric menu. Pre-registration is required. On the menu:

    Fish Tales: Copper River Salmon

    Just like fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood has seasons. In spring, Alaskan Copper River Salmon is king. With a very short season starting in mid-May and ending in mid-June, this fish must be enjoyed during its brief appearance at your fish counter. Like many species of salmon, Copper River salmon is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, protein and delicious flavor. In this class, we’ll learn all about Copper River and other forms of salmon and enjoy Copper River salmon in five delicious dishes. Class has hands on participation as desired. Become your own itamae, or sushi master, in this fun hands-on class.  You will learn about the history of sushi, go over sushi jargon and etiquette and how to select your ingredients.  Chef Ani will show you how to make maki, or rolls, and then you’ll jump in and make your own with a selection of fresh seafood, vegetables and fruit.  At the end of the class, you will take home extra rolls and your brand new sushi rolling mat.  This class fills up very quickly, so sign up right away!  Class is gluten-free and has vegetarian options as desired. We’ll start by breaking down salt and pepper by type and how to use them, discuss how to use them to best advantage and prepare a five course menu with salt and pepper playing the lead role. Private Cooking Classes
Whole Foods Market offers private cooking classes for occasions both personal and professional, from team builds to birthday parties. Any class offered to the public can be held for a private group, or suggest your own theme! The maximum group size for our cooking classroom at this time is 15 people.

Just for Kids

Is your child a budding chef? Whole Kids Club classes are a unique way for children to explore new foods in a fun and creative environment. Each class will be designed for a specific age group. Participants will learn about different foods, cooking utensils, and the importance of good eating habits. At the end of the class, each child will be able to take home his/her creation and the recipe to share with the family. Please sign up at the Customer Service Desk. The sign up deadline is two days before the class is scheduled. Class dates are subject to change or cancellation based on number of attendees.

The Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library present Childish Films @ the Library, a program of classic, independent and new world cinema for ages 3 and up.
