Hailing from the Copper River in Alaska, these determined salmon travel over 300 miles to spawn over more than a thousand foot ascent. Salmon that travel up this river are challenged by both its length and its low temperature, and the journey upstream results in a strong fish with high natural oils and a strong reserve of body fat. Copper River Salmon are known for being especially rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to support healthy cardiac function. These oils and fats result in it being one of the tastiest fish you can find!
Copper River Salmon are harvested using the Gilnetting technique, which involves laying a net wall in the water in the fishes’ path. The fish swim into the mesh and are prevented from escaping. The salmon is iced at the point of harvest, which is the best way to ensure the receiving the highest quality salmon once it arrives in the store.
Copper River Salmon meets the highest standards for seafood sustainability, being named a Certified Sustainable Seafood by the Marine Stewardship Council.
While the salmon’s journey and the fisherman’s methods are intriguing, nothing is better than the taste!
