Community Giving
At Whole Foods Market, we are active participants in our community. We give back at least 5% of our profits to the community each year, by making hundreds of small contributions. We are extremely proud of our community involvement and the relationships that we continue to make each month! We strive to make a difference.
Donations
Whole Foods Market receives many donation requests. We’d like to say yes to everyone, but that’s not always possible, as we have a limited budget. Here are the criteria we use to make decisions about donations:
- We make donations to non-profit organizations only. In most cases, we prefer to support events or organizations that contribute to one or more of the following: Environmental Preservation, Preventitive Health Care and Wellness, Hunger Relief, Organic Farming/Sustainable Food Resources and Arts and Education.
- We donate products rather than cash; and we try to donate private label items from the Whole Foods Market Family of Brands. In some cases we will donate gifts cards.
- All applications must be received in writing at least 45 days before the desired pick-up to allow for ordering and logistical planning. Please use our Online Donation Form.
- Opportunities for partnership between the store and an organization are very appealing. Please know that Whole Foods Market wishes to create lasting, meaningful relationships with the community, your creativity is welcome!
- Rarely do we give a very large contribution to one organization, simply because there are so many who apply. Please see below for ways in which Whole Foods Market Sebastopol supports the community.
- In-Kind Donations: many of the donations from our store are of product, we try to donate items from our 365 line of private label.
- Community Support Days: during which 5% of our net profits from one day’s operation are donated to a non-profit organization. Community Support Days are four times per year.
- Nickels for Nonprofit:We offer customers a $0.05 discount when they supply their own bags. We also offer customers the option to forgo the discount and donate their nickel to a pre-selected non-profit. Four orgnaizations are selected each year
- Script: Available to schools only, our Scrip program allows schools to purchase Whole Foods Market gift cards at a discount of 4%.
