Community Giving
At Whole Foods Market we value the communities in which we do business; this is one of our Core Values! We are extremely proud of our community involvement and the relationships that we continue to make each month. We strive to make a difference.
Charitable Giving
One way we try to help is by making donations of gift cards or our products to some of the non-profit groups in the neighborhoods surrounding our store- Fenway/Kenmore, Back Bay, South End, Roxbury, Mission Hill, Chinatown, Dorchester, and Mattapan.
Donation Requests are accepted online. You should complete the online application at least 60 days prior to when you would expect your donation. As part of the process you will be asked to upload a copy of your group’s 501(c)3 letter from the IRS/US Treasury. Please note that this is a federal letter and not the Tax Exempt Form from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Our Community 5% Days are another meaningful way we give back to our community. On designated days throughout the year a total of 5% of the day’s net sales are donated to local non-profit organizations. Customers help support our selected organizations just by shopping on these 5% Days.
Some of our recent recipients have been the Share Our Strength’s Operation Frontline, The Chef’s Collaborative, Pine Street Inn, Clean Air-Cool Planet, and Countdown to Kindergarten. Many of our stores have banded together to support some of the larger groups and our store often joins with our other two Boston stores on citywide organizations.
Community Involvement
There are other ways that our store works with non-profit agencies in the area. We participate regularly with other Greater Boston stores or on our own by offering our customers coupons at checkout enabling them to support selected agencies. The Federation of Massachusetts Farmers Markets, Project Bread, Boston Living Center, MSPCA, AIDS Action Committee, NOFA, Pine Street Inn, Share Our Strength’s Operation Frontline, and the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition are a few of the groups which have benefited from this program.
You’ll often find Team Members from the Symphony store sampling food or talking up our store at community and fundraising events, too. You’ve seen us at Taste of the South End, Taste of the Fenway, and at many public and private health and wellness fairs and food events around town. At larger scale events such as Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, Earthfest, and AIDS Walk Boston, you’ll often find Whole Foods Market Team Members from all over Eastern Massachusetts!
And, although many of our regionally-supported activities, such as Huntington Theatre Company, don’t require us to be there, you’ve snacked on our donations or purchased them to support the programs you’ve attended.
