Summer Parking and Outdoor Recreation

Whole Foods Market would like to remind patrons of the local lakes that the Calhoun Commons parking lot is reserved for customers only.  Spring and Summer mark a busy time for the neighborhood and Calhoun Commons needs to ensure that all parking is reserved for customers.  Luckily, the Park and Recreation Board have made it easier to access the parks and lakes by providing helpful information on their website.  Visit http://www.minneapolisparks.org/default.asp?PageID=845 for details.  Thank you for your support.

Recycling at Whole Foods Market- Did You Know?

At Whole Foods Market, we believe in recycling and being stewards of a healthy environment.  It is because of this commitment to the environment that our stores choose to pay for our recycling to be shipped to a place where it’s recycled or composted.  Whether it’s local, sent to Chicago on our own trucks or our Gimme 5 partnership with Preserve, we take pride in standing behind our Green Mission and being among the only grocers that support in-store recycling. You can help several ways:

  • 1) Vote with your dollar and shop where recycling is available
  • 2) Sort your plastics
  • 3) If you have a question, our informed Customer Service Team is happy to help
  • 4) Please leave your #6’s at home for pick-up with your garbage. At this time, we haven’t found a suitable recycling solution
  • 5) Write your local representatives and let them know you support recycling

Recycling #5 Plastic at Whole Foods Market, Lake Calhoun

As a courtesy to our customers we offer #5 plastic recycling here at our store.  People can drop their #5 plastics in our foyer’s Gimme 5 Bin.  Please be sure to clean all plastics before dropping them off.  We send this plastic to Preserve, who, in turn, reuses this plastic to make their products.  For more information on Preserve and the Gimme 5 program visit: http://www.preserveproducts.com/recycling/gimme5.html

Cork Recycling

You can now recycle your corks at our store.  The bin is located next to the recycling station in our cafe and all corks will be sent to the Cork Reharvest  to be reused in a variety of ways.  For more information on Whole Foods Market’s partnership with Cork Reharvest visit: http://blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/2010/04/cork-reharvest/

How to Make the Best Seafood Choices

Our store just introduced a new seafood rating system that helps people make the most sustainable seafood choices.  Now we have a seal labeling each seafood item we carry stating whether it’s the best choice for sustainability, a good alternative, or something to avoid. Thus helping people identify the most sustainable seafood we carry. We carefully evaluate both Farm Raised and Wild-Caught seafood on sevaral factors including inherent vulnerability, status of stock, nature and extent of discarded bycatch, effect on habitats and ecosystems, effective management.
