Crab Canapés

These creamy crab canapés are an excellent option for your next cocktail party. They benefit from a stint under the broiler, but the crab salad can also be used as a cold cracker spread or sandwich filler.

Ingredients
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 small onion
- 6 ounces cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons canola mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Cayenne pepper to taste
- 1/2 pound fresh lump crabmeat picked through for shell pieces
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Ground black pepper to taste
- 1 baguette thinly sliced
Method
With the food processor running, put garlic and onion through the feed tube and process until minced. Add cream cheese and heavy cream and process until smooth. Add mayonnaise, sour cream, Worcestershire and cayenne and process until smooth and equally incorporated.
Sprinkle crab with lemon juice, then stir it into cream cheese mixture by hand. Season to taste and chill for at least 1 1/2 hours.
Preheat broiler. Spoon crab mixture onto bread slices. Broil canapés until lightly browned, about 1 to 2 minutes.
