This modern spin on a smash (a classic cocktail typically made with fruit, herbs, sugar and whiskey) is prepared with a double dose of cranberry, in the form of a vibrant cranberry syrup and cranberry juice, plus amontillado sherry. The rich, nutty flavor of dry sherry is a perfect contrast for the bright cranberry flavor, but you can use vodka or single-batch bourbon for this ruby-hued drink.

Method
Combine syrup, cocktail juice and sherry in a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake vigorously and then pour into a rocks glass.
Top off with sparkling wine and more ice cubes if needed. Thread cranberries onto a toothpick and place over the glass to garnish.
