Grilled Strip Steaks with Spicy Onion and Tomato Salad
Serves 4
Time 30 min
Nothing could be simpler or more summerlike than this combination of perfectly grilled steaks served with a quick salad of sweet onions and tomato wedges.
Special Diets:
Ingredients
- 2 (12.0-ounce) strip steaks each about 1 1/4 inches thick
- 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt divided
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 large sweet onions peeled and thickly sliced
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil divided
- 2 teaspoons southwestern or Cajun seasoning mix
- 1 large tomato cut into thin wedges
Method
Prepare a grill for medium-high-heat cooking. Brush steaks lightly on both sides with about half of the olive oil and sprinkle with 3/4 teaspoon of the salt and pepper. Brush onions with remaining olive oil and sprinkle with seasoning mix. Grill steaks and onions, turning once, until onions are browned and steaks are cooked to desired doneness, about 10 minutes for medium-rare.
Transfer steaks to a cutting board and allow to rest 10 minutes. Roughly chop onions, mix with tomato and season with remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Slice steaks thinly against the grain and serve with the onion salad.
