This healthful alternative to bottled barbecue sauce is sweetened with dates, and fragrant with onion, garlic, chili powder and mustard.

Ingredients

    1 can (14.5-ounce)365 Everyday Value® Organic No-Salt-Added Diced Tomatoes
    1/2 cuppitted dates (about 5), roughly chopped
    1/4 cupdistilled white vinegar
    2 tablespoonsdried minced onion
    2 teaspoonsno-salt-added chili powder
    1 teaspoonancho chile powder
    2 teaspoonspowdered mustard
    2 teaspoonsgarlic powder
    1/4 teaspoonfine sea salt

Method

In a small saucepan, combine tomatoes, dates, vinegar, onion, chili powder, mustard, garlic and salt. 


Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. 


Carefully transfer to a blender and process, adding a few tablespoons of water as needed to make a smooth purée. 


Serve warm, or set aside to let cool, cover and chill until ready to serve.
