Ready in minutes, thick and creamy homemade rice cereal is a worthy stand-in for the boxed version. This recipe makes the perfect amount for a few feedings, plus you’ll have extra blended rice on hand for subsequent cooking sessions.

Method
Put rice in a blender and blend until a fine powder forms.
For each 3/4-cup portion of cooked rice cereal, in a small saucepan, bring 1 cup water to a boil.
While whisking, slowly pour in 1/4 cup of the rice powder. Lower heat to medium-low and simmer, whisking frequently, until tender and very thick, about 10 minutes.
The cooked cereal will keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Store the rice powder in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
