Ingredients

    1 1/2 cupsapple cider
    4cinnamon sticks, halved
    4whole star anise
    1 teaspoonwhole cloves
    6 tablespoonsgranulated sugar
    1/4 cupwhole fresh cranberries
    1 bottle (750-ml)pinot noir or other light red wine
    2 smallCara Cara or other seedless oranges, very thinly sliced (discard ends)

Method

In a medium saucepan, combine cider, cinnamon sticks, star anise and cloves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat; lower heat and simmer 10 minutes to infuse spices into cider.


Stir in sugar and cranberries; stir until sugar has dissolved.


Pour in wine; bring just to a simmer and remove from heat.


Place 2 orange slices in each serving mug; strain wine mixture into mugs. Pick out cinnamon sticks, cranberries and star anise from strainer to garnish each serving (discard cloves). Serve hot.
