Meltingly tender and perfectly sweet, this hands-off approach to cooking ham in apple cider and apple butter is perfect for busy holidays. Serve alongside baskets of rolls to make savory sandwiches.
Special Diets:
Method
Arrange ham in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker so that the lid will close as normal. (If needed, slice off a small portion of the ham to make it fit, nestling any removed slices down in the slow cooker.)
Pour cider and vinegar over ham and then spread ham all over with apple butter.
Cover and cook on low, occasionally basting with its juices and turning over once or twice, until very tender and fragrant, about 8 hours.
Transfer ham to a platter and serve. (If you’re planning to reheat and serve later, reserve some of the cooking juices to pour over the top.)
