Cooked until very tender and then puréed, split peas become deliciously creamy and are a simple way to add protein to your baby’s diet.

Method
Combine split peas, onions, bay leaf and 2 cups water in a medium saucepan, stir well and bring to a boil.
Lower heat to medium-low, cover and simmer until very tender, about 45 minutes.
Discard bay leaf.
Carefully transfer split pea mixture, including cooking liquid, to a food processor.
Add oil if using and purée until smooth.
The purée will keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
