Eggs are ever-present in our home. Scrambled, over easy, frittatas, hard-boiled, deviled…the possibilities abound! And so do the egg cartons.
When Easter rolls around and eggs are even more ubiquitous – dyed gorgeous colors, hidden in the garden, piled in baskets – keep those cartons out of the landfill and keep little hands busy crafting fun spring decorations and doo-dads.
When my crafty coworker casually mentioned she and her two little girls were quite the experts in crafting from household scraps, I encouraged her to see what they'd create from egg cartons. She browsed Pinterest for some ideas, and this turned out to be great for inspiration, but she quickly realized there was no need for directions. Explore and play with the possibilities.
She used supplies that she had on hand in her craft box: paint, crayons, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, pompoms, glitter. You could also easily use found materials or stuff you have around the house, like sticks, rocks, twist ties, twine, etc. Of course, basics like scissors (kid or grownup depending on who’s doing the cutting), glue and paint, markers or crayons are also handy.
Take a look at what her little ones created.
Gorgeous spring bouquets of egg carton flowers.
A bunch of colorful lady bugs.
A glitter ship for the pink dinosaur, of course.
They wow'd me with their creativity. Now I'm ready to run out and stock up on glitter...and eggs!
If this makes feel a little crafty too, we've pulled together the pins that inspired Elizabeth and her girls, plus more egg carton craft and other fun ideas, on our Pinterest board: We're Used to Reusing opens in a new tab.
